A Message From the Geek City Team

Greetings Geek City Family,

First and foremost, we would like to wish you all good health and good fortune, and thank you for the support you’ve shown us not only through COVID, but also for our entire time in Coralville and now North Liberty. We would not have lasted without you, and we are incredibly thankful to you all.

As we emerge from the 18-month blur that was COVID, there are some unfortunate but unavoidable realities that need to be addressed. The first involves play space. Up until now we have been able to offer free play space for those of you who wish to use it. Magic players, board game players, D&D groups, mini’s players, everyone – we love having you play here. It may seem like providing this space wouldn’t cost us anything, after all it’s just tables and chairs, but sadly it does. Maintenance, repair, replacement, cleaning, and the fact that the space doesn’t have anything in it for people to buy all add up to a cost for us. Up until now we’ve been able to cover this cost, but due to factors beyond our (or your) control this is no longer the case. To that end, we are taking the following actions. First, starting August 1st we are implementing a $5 table fee for in store play that doesn’t already have an event fee (things like D&D night, EDH night, SW Legion night, etc., which will have priority on their scheduled evenings). Secondly, also on August 1st, we are starting a Patreon ( https://www.patreon.com/GeekCityGames ) for the store. Our Patreon will include a tier geared specifically toward those of you who participate in these events. That tier will include waived table fees and the opportunity for extended play hours on certain nights.

There will be more to come as we see just how disrupted things are due to the COVID recovery, but we will cover those at a later date when things become more solid. For now, we hope you will understand why this change must be made as we make our way forward.
